Queen Esther

 24x36 Mixed Media 2008 (available)

This piece is about the story of Esther from the Bible.  She was a Jewess chosen by the King of Persia for his bride.  Her people were plotted against by an influential man in the court.  Esther exposed her heritage and risked death to stand against the imposing threat to her people.  The blood stops at her hand.  The dog is a symbol of her faithfulness to herself and her people.  The oak tree is a symbol of courage, and the watch refers to the scripture "for such a time as this." Esther 4:14  The star of David is hidden in her necklace.
