In this piece I am exploring ideas about the reality of the spiritual realm intertwined with the physical realm.
The woman represents the believer. She has a halo and is a saint in the Kingdom. She is in sepia tones while her clothing is in color. The sepia represents how we are spiritual in nature and wear our bodies to function in this physical realm. While we are here on earth, we work on perfecting our souls which involves trials and choices on our part. The dove in her right hand represents how we hold onto the truths God has given us to work with. The dove also more literally represents the Holy Spirit and purity. If you look closely, you will realize that the hand holding the apple is her own left hand. The apple symbolizes temptation and sin from the Garden of Eden. The hand is offering her a temptation, but it is not connected to her body to reference the scripture “If your right hand causes you to sin, cut if off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go to hell.” Matthew 5:30 Jesus was not advocating mutilation, but he was encouraging us to remove things from our lives that are stumbling blocks for us, whether that is a person, activity or some other influence. So she is holding that temptation away from her body. The curtain brings to mind the stage on which our lives play out.
